Mark Carney jokes with Trump mistakenly calls him ‘president’

While US Donald Trump addressed world leaders at the ‘Summit for Peace’ to support the permanent ceasefire in Gaza, he mistakenly referred to Mark Carney as the president of Canada, rather than prime minister. Carney has served as the country’s prime minister since March 2025.

After the meeting, Carney approached Trump and appeared to joke about the misstep, saying he was ‘glad you upgraded me to president’.
