‘Just ridiculous’: Americans react to gas prices

Americans in Philadelphia and the auto industry hub of Warren, Michigan, near Detroit, are voicing their concerns over the cost of gas.

Nationwide, the average price of gas on 30 April, 2026 was $4.30 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Oil prices jumped to their highest since 2022 after a report that the US military is set to brief US President Donald Trump on new plans for potential action in the Iran war. Brent crude rose by almost 7% to more than $126 (£94) a barrel at one point, before falling back.
