$580B Wealthspire Names Executive Leadership Team

Wealthspire announced the elevation of nine executives to its leadership team following its formation as a unified registered investment advisor, backed by Madison Dearborn Partners.

The new leadership team was announced by Mike LaMena, previously named CEO and the head of the original RIA Wealthspire, and Carl Nelson, the new president, who was the former executive vice president of mergers & acquisitions at NFP. Many of the appointments signal promotions to executives who had been part of the leadership teams at the four wealth and retirement advice divisions acquired by Madison Dearborn from global insurer Aon Plc earlier this year. The Chicago-based private equity firm had reacquired these firms from Aon, while leaving the insurance business of NFP.

As part of the appointments, Mike Goss, the former president of one of the reacquired firms, Fiducient Advisors, takes on the roles of chief revenue officer and president of Wealthspire Institutional, which includes Wealthspire Retirement Advisory. In this position, he is responsible for developing a unified strategy across private wealth, institutional advice, retirement solutions and business management.

Wealthspire, which launched earlier this year with approximately $580 billion in total client assets, holds around $80 billion in assets of its wealth clients and an additional $500 billion in retirement plan assets. It, like other large RIAs such as Captrust, Creative Planning, Mariner, and OneDigital, is betting on synergies between wealth and retirement to drive growth.

Brad Long, who has been the chief investment officer at Fiducient, will now assume the same role at Wealthspire, where he will be responsible for investment philosophy, portfolio construction, and manager research.

Brett Schneider, who had been CFO of NFP, will assume the same post at Wealthspire to oversee financial strategy, reporting, capital allocation and performance management.

Other appointments include:

  • Veronica Moo, former deputy general counsel at NFP, will be the general counsel

  • Nataly Sogoloff, former HR leader for Wealthspire Advisors and Lenox Advisors, will be chief people officer

  • Steve Frampton, who had been CTO of the original Wealthspire, will be CTO of the newly combined RIA

  • Angela Giombetti, chief marketing officer of the prior Wealthspire, will now take the same role for the new RIA

  • Brent Perkel, who had done mergers and acquisitions for NFP, will be the head of corporate development

  • Chris DiMeo, who was previously active in mergers and acquisitions at NFP, will serve as head of mergers & acquisitions.

The firm also named business line presidents: Eric Sontag for Wealthspire Private Client, Doug Brown for Newport Private Wealth, Chris Bucci for Ground Control Business Management, and Joel Shapiro for Wealthspire Retirement Advisory.

Wealthspire has more than 1,200 employees across over 40 offices and works with clients in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
