RightCapital Launches OCR Tool for eMoney Migration
Popular financial planning platform RightCapital has launched a new tool, using a relatively old form of technology, Optical Character Recognition, to help advisors migrating from the venerable eMoney Advisor platform.
With the new feature (it lacks a specific name), advisors using both eMoney and RightCapital can generate a client’s financial plan as a PDF in eMoney and import it into RightCapital.
The latter then automatically extracts all the client’s financial data from the document and inputs it into RightCapital, where a new plan can also be generated.
Data pulled from eMoney includes expenses, family information, financial goals, income, insurance policies, properties and savings, among other things.
Similarly, according to eMoney Advisor Director of Corporate Communications Joanna Armandi, her firm has also had an OCR tool in use for the last year, though, she said it has not been marketed broadly.
“Our OCR tool is used to transfer planning data from other systems and to date, we’ve used it to move thousands of financial plans into eMoney,” she wrote in an email.
She added that in the past 12 months, eMoney had added nearly 30,000 new users, which now totals 138,000 (inclusive of advisors, planners and those in support roles), which together serve more than seven million households.
The new RightCapital tool is now available; the company is the third largest financial planning platform in use by U.S. financial advisors by market share, according to the annual T3 Advisor Software Survey.
According to the 2025 version of the survey, Envestnet’s various versions of MoneyGuide and the various versions of eMoney each have a roughly one-third share of the advisor financial planning technology market with RightCapital currently at just under 21%.
Market share of the more than a dozen other competitors remains in the single digits or less.
It should be noted that most financial planning software used by financial advisors, including Envestnet MoneyGuide, allows advisors to produce PDF reports of financial plans.
